Darbi Boddy was asked recently by Local 12 news about a claim that she refuses to work in good faith with the other board members.
“I have no idea what that means,” Boddy responded. This is not the most egregious example of Mrs. Boddy’s, it just happened to be the next one. Here are clips of things Mrs. Boddy said at a meeting just a few days after she gave that quote. This was a policy committee meeting where the board discussed changes to the public comment policy on 2/10/23.
In this first clip, Mrs. Boddy, who has brought her own child to the board meetings multiple times suggests that we should not let students into board meetings due to the content that takes place sometimes. She has brought her child and had her sit underneath the table in the past. She also brought her child into the meeting where she was censured for posting a pornographic link on her social media page.
Here she suggests (again, not the first time) that until everyone except her is replaced on the board, things won’t get better. This does not seem like a successful strategy for working together as a team. This is definitely a violation of letter E of the code of conduct for the board – work with other members to establish effective Board policies and high expectations for the work of the Board.
Here, Darbi forgets the name of the district’s Director of School and Community Relations, with whom she has been in meetings constantly for over a year. She then talks about how the district is being presented in a bad light, but lacks the self-awareness to understand why.
Here Darbi expresses concerns about the new public policy which has some legitimacy. However, the way that she approaches the conversation makes it difficult to have constructive conversations about how to change the policy.
Darbi’s combative behavior continues, and she plays the victim. Meanwhile, Julie Shaffer points out the actual issue: the continued “salaciousness” that is present during the board’s business meetings.
Darbi had previously brought up a legitimate point about the start times of the meeting being hard for working people to arrive in time, but then she goes a bit off the rails with a delusional rant

For Lakota’s summary of the proposed policy feel free to look here: https://www.lakotaonline.com/departments/operations/communications/news/news-detail-page/~board/school-board/post/board-considers-changes-to-public-comment-policy
The policy as proposed will go up for a first read / emergency second read at the next board meeting (March 6th). It would be in effect for the April 3rd board meeting assuming it passes.
