By now, most of you have seen the videos of board meetings and the circulating petition asking the board to censure Mrs. Boddy. The words that she has spoken and written in these examples have not been “twisted” by anyone. You have seen her speak them in videos and read them when excerpts of her emails were published after a public records request. No one is spinning her words. She has established a pattern of behavior that led residents to begin a petition asking for her to be censured (not censored or canceled, as she claims). While censure is essentially a symbolic move, it demonstrates that residents are concerned about how Mrs. Boddy’s behavior reflects on the school district.

The Code of Ethics in the board bylaws has many rules that Mrs. Boddy has run afoul of, specifically that one board member is not entitled to make demands of the Superintendent. Instead, they are charged with working to build relationships with the superintendent and treasurer and delegating administrative responsibilities to them. If she truly believes there are problems that need to be addressed, why doesn’t she follow procedure and bring specific examples to Mr. Miller so he can address them as he has stated multiple times he would? How will her behavior help facilitate open discussions at future board meetings?

No one is disputing that Mrs. Boddy was elected to the board. The issue being raised in the petition addresses her behavior, not her politics. We are all expected to follow certain rules of conduct in the workplace. We expect our children to follow accepted rules of behavior at home and school. Should we not have the same expectation of someone who is in a position to form policy for our children? What kind of example does it set if we don’t hold this board member accountable for her behavior?
